Sport England London Appoint New Sports Board Members
Sport England London, the strategic lead for sport in the capital, today announced the appointment of two new members to the London Regional Sports Board.  Andrée Deane and Paula Craig MBE have both joined the board and will support the existing members in shaping Sport England's work to increase
participation and get London active.(1)

Paula Craig has worked for the Metropolitan Police for 19 years, and is currently a Detective Sergeant in West London.  A dedicated sports woman all her life, Paula has taken part in the London Marathon on numerous occasions. After a car accident left her in a wheelchair she began training again while still in hospital and now competes as a wheelchair athlete all over the
world.  Paula was awarded an MBE in the Queen's New Years Honours list for her services to the police.

Andrée is Communications Director of The Fitness Industry Association (FIA) and Advisor to SkillsActive.  After a seven-year career in PE teaching, she has worked in the health and fitness industry for over 20 years in a range of roles. Through her work at the Fitness Industry Association (FIA) Andrée has played a pivotal role in the development of the Register of Exercise
Professionals and contributing to the Department of Health's National Quality Assurance Framework.

Matt Delaney, Director of Sport England London, said: "We are delighted that Andrée and Paula have agreed to take up this new challenge with Sport England.  We currently have a highly effective sports board and these two new additions, with their wealth and experience of local knowledge are sure to make the London Sports Board very successful in building partnerships in
London and raising the profile of sport and active participation across the capital"

Notes to editors
1. Sport England's Regional Sports Boards (RSBs) provide the
strategic lead for sport in their regions and distribute investment for
grassroots sport. Sport England has nine Regional Sports Boards (RSBs), each made up of experts from areas such as business, local government, sport, health and education.

2. The RSBs develop long-term plans for the growth of sport in
their geographical areas, distribute Lottery and other Sport England funds, attract outside investment and work to ensure sport is 'joined-up' with a wide range of other regional bodies and activities.

Sport England is the strategic lead for Sport in England and invests Lottery and Exchequer funds into sport. Our aim is to encourage people of all ages to start, stay and succeed in sport at every level and make England the most active and successful sporting nation.

Sport England has invested more than £2bn of Lottery funds into sport across England and more than £300 million from the Exchequer. <>
